An Indian Engagement Party in Kansas City

Kelly & Dale’s Post Wedding

Since we wanted to take more pictures around campus, Kelly Dale and I met after the wedding and took a few pics. Something I really love about taking having sessions on campus is that every now and then we hear students walk by and shouting “Congratulations!” During this newly wed pictures, Kelly, Dale, and I some-what chuckled when someone shouted “congratulations on your engagement!” This location was a great place to have this session and the weather was actually warmer this day than earlier during the wedding. That Kansas weather for you!

The Villa of Kansas City

I recently shot a wedding at a charming little venue called the Villa of Kansas City, and I was so impressed that I had to write a few words about it. The first thing that caught my eye about this place was the décor. I would describe it as elegant without coming off as pretentious. The polished hardwood floors reflect the glowfrom the walls and beautiful light fixtures, and everything is draped in matching cream and light tones, making it easier to shoot with natural light, which I prefer. The main hall where the ceremony was held was surprisingly versatile: after the vows, the wedding planner and her crew seamlessly transformed it into a reception hall. The event planner, Candace Hufford, was so accommodating for the bride that I initially mistook her for a bride’s maid. It also surprised me to learn that she, as well as just about every other aspect of the wedding including the catering, was provided in-house by the Villa. With all of the chaos that can ensue amongst the myriad variables in planning a wedding, from the flowers to the flambéd entrées you plan to serve at the reception, it helps to have one go-to person managing everything.

Heavenly Harpist

When you think of heaven, what kind of music comes to mind? There is a reason why the stereotypical portrayal of the afterlife is always accompanied by the soothing sound of a harp: the instrument is, quite simply put, divine! For thousands of years musicians have used harps, albeit in different iterations of the musical instrument, to celebrate the most significant events, and for good reason. With its towering, monolithic presence and unparalleled tone color, no instrument can be so evocative and yet provide as subtle, soothing ambiance as the harp.

And in this day and age, what event is more deserving of beautiful music than the joining of two people to make a family. It is a timeless instrument, fitting for any wedding theme, and usually, any budget. Considering the cost of hiring a wedding singer or quartet, a harpist would be the obvious choice for brides-to-be on a budget.

But with so few harpists with the proficiency and stamina required to perform a wedding, having a harp accompaniment is too often a non-option. Luckily for the Kansas City area, one Erin Wood offers her services for weddings and receptions. With 20+ years of experience, Erin’s musical prowess is unparalleled in the area. For any bride looking for style and elegance in her choice of musical accompaniment, Erin Wood is the perfect choice!

Family Fun with the Sorensens!

The Sorensen Kids were such beauties! They clearly expressed their personalities in front of the camera and told a tale with every step! Children always seem to bring out a fun side to photography–mainly because they are so unpredictable and have their own agenda!
