Lawrence Transformed- Hetal and Samir’s Hindu/Indian Wedding

hindu_wedding_lawrence_feature

You might have already read about a wedding I shot last week if you subscribe to the Lawrence Journal-World: It made the front page last Wednesday. The wedding was a magnet for photogs. In addition to the newspaper coming to the SpringHills Suites, many guests (and even some vendors) had their cameras on hand trying to capture some of the amazing imagery. And who can blame them! From the décor by Event Experts and BitterSweet Floral to the amazing custom sarees and jewelry, the wedding ran the full gamut of colors. Resplendent reds canvassed the bride and groom during the Mandap ceremony. Oneiric oranges of curry blanketed basmati rice at the dinner by Swagat Fine Indian Cuisine and cakes from Slice of Life. Neon colors pulsated on the dance floor at the reception. Eye candy!

Thanks to everyone that helped our photography on the wedding, to Heather for doing the makeup on such short notice and Nichole from Dash for doing the hair. (Speaking of hair, thanks to all the groomsmen for helping the groom shave for the big day too LOL!) A special thanks to Carmen that helped plan and make this such A Beautiful Wedding! It felt like we were in a hotel in Mumbai. Seriously, covering it was a grand, profound experience for us.

Oh, her eyes!-children’s photography Lawrence KS

There is something soothing about looking into the unique grey-blue shade found in newborns’ eyes. I remember waiting with anticipation for my son’s eyes to mature, and hoping that he would keep the same baby-blues that my husband has been blessed with. This baby got to keep hers, luckily, and my lens loved them!

An Indian Engagement Party in Kansas City

Kelly & Dale’s Post Wedding

Since we wanted to take more pictures around campus, Kelly Dale and I met after the wedding and took a few pics. Something I really love about taking having sessions on campus is that every now and then we hear students walk by and shouting “Congratulations!” During this newly wed pictures, Kelly, Dale, and I some-what chuckled when someone shouted “congratulations on your engagement!” This location was a great place to have this session and the weather was actually warmer this day than earlier during the wedding. That Kansas weather for you!

Lindsey & Brett

Lindsey and Brett are such a handsome couple! I loved take taking their pictures! Their photo session went SO smoothly. I can’t wait for their wedding in less than 2 months!

They even brought their “baby” who is another beauty in front of the camera.

Butterfly Bio-Villa at Pendelton’s Country Market

Recently a group of friends, my son, and I went to Pendleton’s Country Market to see the Butterfly Bio-Vila. We had a small tour (perfect length for the kids to stay entertained) and a tractor-pulled hayride to the Bio-Villa. The tractor ride passed a right-turn only maze for the kids to play in afterwards and an area where kids can climb up towers, tires, and tricycles and have fun in the country sun. The main attraction was the butterflies. I loved seeing all the kids getting so excited about the butterflies and seeing butterflies actually coming out of their chrysalises and dry their wings! All the little kids ran up and down the brick road looking at the caterpillars on the parsley and butterflies fluttering around, occasionally landing on one of us and on nearby plants.

Something that really was fun to me was tagging the butterflies after playing around and after most of the crowd had left. They brought out some butterflies and placed a small sticker on their wing, and placed them on our heads and hands to let them warm up and fly away. The sticker has a number and can be tracked via internet! We can track them by visiting Monarch Watch. They told me that these butterflies should be in the system by Jan… I guess it will be fun to see where our butterflies end up! Of the three butterflies we tagged, I only got one tag code which was MLS 911. Let’s see how far she gets (she was female)!
