Dan and Kathy Eloped at the Circle S Ranch in Lawrence Kansas!!!

circle_s_ranch_dan_kathy_feature

Okay, so they did have family witnessing their wedding and it wasn’t sneaky at all. However, it was a very intimate family wedding with clear blue skies, tractors, and longhorns!!! since Dan proposed to Kathy on the infamous bridge at Potter Lake on KU campus, choosing a location to first see each other was a no-brainer! This place, for them, as it also may be for others, marks a new beginning for them. The place she said “yes” and the place he first saw her as his bride.

After campus we drove up to Circle S Ranch and began preparations for the ceremony with only close family members! what a memorable day! After some formals, and some also shots taken nearby the ranch area, we were taken up to an awesome hill where the curious longhorns slowly crept up behind Dan and Kathy, I guess because they just wanted in on the awesomeness of these shots!

Thank you, Dan and Kathy, for having us create memories of your big day!

Just in case some of you are wondering who did Kathy’s awesome makeup, it was Makeup Artistry by Heather

Treats in the mail: How FUN!!!

love_letters_feature

Ok, now how adorable is this! My little 5-year-old just got his very first piece of mail that was not from family or his school. And it happened to be from a little girl from his school! I had received a text earlier from her parents giving us the heads up and that she has gotten into the habit of sealing little somethings in envelopes and having her parents send them out to specific friends. What a thoughtful idea! Well it doesn’t end there, Matthew just received the mysterious envelopes today! I read to Matthew what the little girl had asked her mom to write o the back of the envelopes:

Dear Matthew, I really like you and I miss you and I want to have a play date with you. From {little girl’s name}

Both envelopes contained the most thoughtful thing a little girl could ever give a little boy: FRUIT SNACKS!

What a wonderful example this little preschool girl is to me! There is always something fun in receiving a little something in the mail from ones who appreciate your friendship!

By the way, the yellow flower was given to me by Matthew’s little guy friend who came by for a play date this afternoon. These kids are just SO darling!

Allison & Chris’ maternity session on KU campus!

maternity_elledge-54

Today Josh and I had an amazing session today with an awesome couple! Talk about a memorable shoot! In spite of our 70+ degree weather a couple days ago, we had a bit of snow fall yesterday which kept today a bit chilly, and our awesome expecting couple were true troopers to bear the crazy Lawrence, KS weather.

We were pleased that the Oread permitted us to find refuge in their beautiful building for a bit while we all warmed up a bit.

Allison & Chris-It was such a pleasure capturing these moments, can’t wait for the little one to arrive!

Here are some teasers from today! Enjoy!

What is a Bridal Session?!

5

Many brides have asked me what a bridal session is; and just in case you are wondering what they are too, you have come to the right place! A bridal session is the perfect time to try on your dress, get your makeup on and hair done at the same time so you can see just how stunning you will look on photo besides on your wedding day. So this way you would look great just as you will on the big day without all the stress and time restraints! Bridals are usually taken before the wedding day and can be taken with your soon-to-be-hubby. We can even stage your “first look” moment with each other with out friends and family looking over your shoulder so this way you can genuinely hug, cry, kiss without thinking if you are still on schedule. We can go to your favorite places or just go off to a vineyard and create tender moments.

Whether your fiance comes to the bridal session or not, these can be valuable photos to hang on your wall or added to your wedding album. Because the stress of the wedding day will not be nagging our every moment, our creative juices will definitely be flowing more freely and we could create them practically anywhere without needing to consider if it were too far away from the venue or if guests were waiting for us your grand entrance.

When is the best time to have the bridal session? My awesome photographer, Amber, took mine a couple months before my wedding day. This way, I had time to make any prints I wanted to showcase on our wedding day. You can have them as early as a you like as long as you already have your dress and your hair stylist and makeup artist already picked out. Be sure to already have the dress fitted and have done at least one trial before this session so that everything may flow much better! Another good thing about having your bridal session on another day is so you can control the weather a bit… okay so you can’t really “control” the weather, but you can reschedule a bridal session if Mother Nature decides to make it rain on your bridal session day–just be sure to pay attention to the forecast and contact your hair, make up and awesome photographer to reschedule on time! We more than anything want this to be an amazing moment of fun for you as you prepare for your wedding day.

What to bring on your bridal session?

You will want to bring a friend to carry a white sheet or blanket to protect your dress just in case I have you sit down anywhere. extra hairspray and some tissues if you’d think you’ll cry when you see your fiance! Also, be sure to bring comfortable shoes beside your wedding shoes just in case we have to hike before we get to the shooting spot! I certainly do not want to get your beautiful shoes dirty! Also if you are into any sports or would like to wear some cleats under your dress, be sure to let us know so we can get some fun ideas there as well!

Anyway, feel free to ask away if you would like to know more about bridal sessions and how to better prepare for them or if you had a bridal session and wish to comment on your experience or what you wish knew to better prepare for it or how much you LOVED it!

Newborn Sweetheart!

2012_newborn_feature

I must start off by being grateful to Josh for supporting me SO much in the photography business. I honestly do not know how one can do it without this kind of support! In this case, Josh did not only hold up backdrops and bear with me in the insanely hot room that kept Carter cozy, he actually helped in the posing! I am so glad he had been there to make this session a blast! And Carter, you are the sweetest baby!

Mom and dad wanted to keep his “battle scar”! I think it adds character!

It’s Resolution Time – Hello 2012!!!

_eve_2012-31

How many of you like to sit down at the end of a year and try to reflect on some resolutions for the next year to come? I know I like to at least change a few things I do and try to make life a bit more organized than in the previous year. It’s almost like spring cleaning in my desk area and in my digital filing system. As I have been storing digital files of weddings, family & senior sessions, and even personal photos I meant to blog about; I realized that MANY sessions ended up in the I’ll-blog-about-them-tomorrow pile, and that that pile became ever so high! The main reason I justify this lack of blogging is probably best illustrated by this Mercedes Benz ad, perfectly illustrated by Gil Aviyam and Lena Guberman

Lets’ just erase most items on the left side (especially anything that has to do with writing) and that might as well be my brain! But since I know that many love to see updated blogs (myself ironically included), I decided that one of my resolutions of 2012 is to keep my blog updated. I may need your help by commenting on some of my posts and ask me questions like “where did she get that dress?” or “I need one of those dreadlock hats!”. Or you can just flat out tell me that should have had my husband edit my Puerto-Rican spiced blog post so everyone can read what I am saying without all the extra fluff! :)

Anyway, in honor of my new year resolution, I will not consider myself as seriously keeping my blog if I still have that mile high pile of unwritten blog posts, so I am going to sum up some of our 2011 experiences here on the eve of my resolution. They are not in any specific order but I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed capturing them!

On a personal note, another New Year resolution I made is to eat at least 3 salads a week… and I’m not counting green Jell-O!!! What are some new year resolutions you made?

Lifestyle Photography- Family Pictures in Lawrence KS

2011_12_28_lifestyle_feature

‘Tis the season to be together and enjoy each other’s company. I enjoy this time of the year since it is the best chance both Josh and I can relax and have fun with family that visit from out of town those who are in town. Our son for sure LOVES having all his cousins nearby. Recently I have had several families request lifestyle photography sessions rather than portrait sessions. The lifestyle approach has become a personal favorite of mine since it is not always posing and looking their very best. Now, I am not saying that my clients do not look their best, rather I am saying that through the eyes of Mojica Photography, family pictures can include real life experiences that we create together to best capture normal, every day life they want to remember. Let’s face it, our children are growing up all too fast and are learning to leave childish things behind :’( ; this is when I try to pick up one of my cameras and look at what my son likes to do and just follow him and capture the moment. Here are a few family photo sessions sharing memories together as they were really hanging out and doing what they already like to do.

The Delivery Room- Birth Photography Lawrence KS

2011_hospital_pictures

These hospital pictures will always amaze me because of the moments just before becoming a mommy are usually the most painful, before the epidural of course! Pregnancy and delivery is probably the most sacrificial moments a mother can give to her child. You’ve heard them all, from 2-72 hours of labor (one of my sisters included), moms share their pain to their children to remind them that they went through a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to bring them into the world. This to me is pure love. And having photos like these are small reminders of such moments to share with generations to come.

Amanda and Ryan @ Abe and Jake’s, Lawrence KS

abe_and_jakes_feature

In the midst of family & friends both the bride and groom prepare to wed. Surrounded by those who love them and are willing to run last minute errands to make final touches, Amanda and Ryan prepare to spend the rest of their lives together. After sliding into her dress, her sister and friends fastened a decorative pin to her gown, helped slip in to her shoes, fasten her veil and place a flower on her hair . . . She was getting married!

The details they put into their day from the beautiful, bright blue Hey Lady shoes by the Leung twins to the guardian angel pin with her grandmother’s birthstone to her drop-dead gorgeous short skirted dress. She soon became a star!

The groom did not fall behind, as he got ready for his permanent role as husband, he carefully got ready and patietly waited for their first encounter with perfect poise.

Josh captured the bride’s reaction to seeing in her future husband perfectly!

I love having time to take portraits and other fun photos prior to the ceremony!

Bride and groom married at the wonderful Abe & Jake’s Landing in Lawrence, a venue that reflects both the theatricality as well as the class these two local actors possess.

The ceremony was the perfect setting with perfect light flowing in the windows.

During the reception, the couple did not cease to amaze me on how wonderfully they look together.
